A few years ago, while discussing ways of representing digital moving pictures with Bruno Nicoletti of The Foundry, I discovered we shared a loathing of the many irritating compromises made when you could still use the words “video” and “thermionic emission triode” in the same sentence.
 
So I’m going to use this as a space to vent about some of the things I hate about video, along the way explaining:
* what it is I’m getting worked up about
* why they did it then
* what’s wrong with it now
* what alternatives and workarounds are there?
